I AM RICH POTOSI
The Mountain That Eats Men

Stephen Edward Ferry, a non-fiction photographer, has captured the haunting beauty and history of Potosi Mountain in Bolivia. This mountain area, with over 18, 000 Quechua miners still search for trace amounts of silver, tin, and zinc. It also holds stories of resilience and sacrifice, reflecting the traditions still maintained since the Spanish conquest. Through his lens, Ferry reveals the stark realities faced by the local communities, including the grief of widows and the toll of mining on health and life. His work serves as a poignant reminder of the cultural and historical significance of Potosi, inviting viewers to reflect on its rich yet troubled legacy.
